COVERING THE ROSE or TATTOO REGRET

Over 6 years ago I did something totally foolish. Something that had I stopped to consider the past and the very real possibility of it repeting itself, I would have never done.

This foolish thing was not done in haste or spur of the moment. I had put many hours of thought and soul searching into it before going ahead. I was first of all doing it for me, as a symbol of my dedication,love and belief in another person and what we shared, and also for those same reasons, doing it for them also. It was my gift and promise.

This foolish thing of which I write was a tattoo. Not a random tattoo from out of a book or off the wall but one I designed of initials. The other persons contribution to the design was a single rose bud. (The insane reality of this would come back and slap me in the face)

Once I became accustomed to the tattoo over my heart, it became a part of me. I loved looking at it. Many times at night while watching TV or trying to sleep, I would place my hand over it and remember all the times it was another persons hand there,gently tracing the design.

Those warm, fuzzy feeling about it persisted for about 2 1/2 years, then little by little, day by day, the joy,pride and love I felt about it dissolved. This gift that had meant so much to me, that had been more than just ink on my body was shit on,crumbled up and throw back in my face.

My small little tattoo, a gift I was so proud to give had no double meaning and was not interchangable with anyone else, was never presented as being to and for anyone else.

I couldn't and still can't stand to look at it and try to avoid doing so. Earlier in the year while being prepped for surgery, the attending nurse commmented on how unique and beautiful it was, going on to ask:

"Does it have a special meaning?"

Without pausing, I replied:

"No."

I have debated with myself about just leaving it alone to stand as a reminder for the future or to cover it, and if so, with what...?

I finally decided it did indeed need to be covered and with something that had meaning to me. That thing will be my favorite flower, the pansy.

Despite the name, the pansy is a strong and hardy flower. It grows, blooms and thrives when all other flowers are dead. If the weather gets really,really cold and severe, they always come back to live, grow and bloom again.

Roses come and roses go, but the pansy takes a licking and keeps on ticking.

TAKING CARE OF ME

I've entered this new and strange (for me) phase of my life where I am putting myself first. Have to say that isn't something that comes naturally. I don't know if that is a southern woman thing or just a me thing.

Over the years I put everyone else first. Their needs and wants were placed ahead of my own, yet I never got around to taking care of me.

That has slowly changed over the past 2 years. Some people in my life have adapted well and even embraced the new change, others...not so much as they were more comfortable with taking.

I covered my unhappiness with food and mindless eating, trying I guess to fill up the empty spaces in my heart and life. I dreaded getting on the scale at the doctors office because every visit the number would slowly rise. Sometimes I just flat out refused.

In September at the doctors office for intense knee and leg pain, he suggested that I get more active and start walking. I only smiled and acknowledged that I needed to all the while thinking it was impossible because, well...because I didn't want to.

Then one week later, something strange happened. I found myself putting on my Nike's and driving to a near by church with a huge paved parking lot and trail through the cemetary. Thirty minutes I told myself. Walk at a slow pace for 30 minutes.

It wasn't easy because my lower back and joints began to protest right away. I wanted to stop after only 5 minutes. But I kept on going. Pushing myself every step of the way.

I walked 30 minutes 3 times that week.
And the next.
And the next.

Something strange began to happen. I began to look forward to my walks and it got easier. I didn't have to physically push myself so much. I changed my eating habits starting with having breakfast every morning. No fried foods at all and filling my plate at lunch and dinner with veggies and snacking on fruits.

The first couple of weeks it had taken me 30 minutes to make 6 circles around the church. By week 3 I was doing 7 1/2 and actually enjoying it making those 30 minutes my me time. It gave me time to think and talk out loud to myself, review my life and give myself a pep talk. Not only did my knee and leg start feeling better, but I began sleeping better and longer at night.

My goal when I began was to lose 8 pounds. A follow up appointment a month later and I had dropped 8.2 pounds. The doctor and nurse congratulated me and I gave myself a big high five and atta girl.

I have another appointment at the end of this month and the goal I set was another 8 pounds, although I am hoping for 10. I cleaned the dust off my dumb bells and began working out with them 4 times per week. My son noted the other night that I was getting, "guns". Don't mind having pistols but I sure don't want guns. Maybe lighter weights and less reps.

I rewarded myself for the 8.2 pounds with a little something I have been wanting for a couple of years, a ToyWatch. An expensive reward I know but I was blessed to find a brand new one, still in the box with tags on Ebay. The exact kind I had wanted at less than half price.

There are still days when I have to mentally push myself to get started. Once I do and get going a surprising thing happens after about 15 or 20 minutes and it starts feeling really good and the feeling continues after I stop.

Taking care of me sure feels good.

7. I used to talk in my sleep. ALABAMA'S IMMIGRATION LAW

I am SICK and TIRED about the big hoop de doo about the state of Alabama's tough new immigration law.

Sicker still of The Anniston Stars bleeding heart liberal H Brandt Ayers and his STUPID diatribes about this "hateful and mean spirited" law. SHUT UP YOU DAMN FOOL!

As a child my parents taught me about CHOICES and that CHOICES have CONSEQUENCES. Very simply that means, unless someone was kidnapped and dragged at gunpoint into this country AGAINST their will, they CHOSE to enter this country ILLEGALLY. They knew they were BREAKING the law and decided to do it anyway.

You are here illegally then you are breaking the law so there is no sense in protesting,marching and crying on TV about the awful state of Alabama and how they want to punish you. How about accepting some responsibility for your own ACTIONS and CHOICES!!!!!!!!!!!!

They say they are afraid someone will ask to see their papers or ID....Well guess the hell what.....that happens to Americans all the time, so if you don't want to show ID you better go somewhere else.

During my most recent surgery, I had to show my ID and prove who I was about 12 different times to 12 different people.

Rent a car.....hotel room....buy a car....register a car....get married...get divorced....apply for insurance....All those things and more you have to show ID....!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This isn't something that has been cooked up by the powers that be to hurt your feelings!

I tell you what hurts my feelings.....people that come here ILLEGALLY, breaking the law and then making demands.

I don't have a thing in this world against people from other countries wanting to come here to the United States to make and have a better life for themselves and their children. This is a great country. My ancestors came here from Ireland,England,Scotland and France. Came here LEGALLY. So why should there be an exception for you....?

I wish all the people who SUPPORT this law would have their own marches and show support. There are more people for this than there are against it!

What I find "hateful and mean spirited" are the illegals here not paying taxes, working under the table all the while sucking up benefits that should go to those that came here respecting the laws of this country and doing things the right way.

WHAT IT IS and WHAT IT AIN'T

I don't see the world in black and white. I try to see all the colors of the rainbow but the truth is for most of my life I've looked at the world through rose colored,hopeless romantic,real love can conquer and overcome anything eyes that dream dreams and look beyond what is into what could be.

So, as Dr Phil would say, "How is that workin' for ya?"

Not so good.

Having dreams and working to make them become reality is good. Living inside those dreams as if they are or will one day be reality isn't good or healthy. I've walked a tightrope between dreams and reality for more years than I care to count and I have rope burn along with the bumps and scars from all those years of free falling from those dreams down into the abyss of my reality.

There are things I wish someone would have told me long ago. Not that I would have listened. I might have heard the words but they always missed their mark. Some things a person just has to see and learn on their own.

I've wasted years.....YEARS of my life that I will never get back loving someone who didn't love me. Trying to make a place and insert myself into a life and heart where there was no room for me.

I overlooked things I shouldn't have.
Forgave more than I should.
Believed so deeply in something that wasn't real.
Gave second,third,fourth,one hundred ten, second chances.
Told myself it was alright "for now" to be the spare tire in the trunk of someones life, because, "one day".....

Well, ya know what....? "One day", might never get here and this day, this minute and this second are the only ones that count.

Always on the edge of "one day" and on the verge of almost being loved.

I couldn't face, acknowledge or accept the truth, even when it was right in front of me.

Walking that tightrope between words and actions.

I can write about these things now without anger or beating myself up for being such a damn fool.

All those questions I asked myself for all those years when all the frickin' time it was so very simple. I could have spared myself so much pain, hurt and anguish. But, I couldn't allow myself to see those things because I didn't want to lose him or what I imagined we had.

The truth unfolded and revealed itself slowly.

I didn't have him, I only had the illusion of him. As soon as I was out of sight, I was out of his life and mind. And the moments and things I held so dear that we had shared vanished before I was in his rear view mirror.

Day by day, hour by hour, minute by minute, I held my breath, always wondering and waiting for the other shoe to drop. To be forgotten, tossed aside and thrown away. Again. Trying to live in the moment yet at the same time trying not to get too caught up in it, always mindful it could disappear without warning.

When you consider and accept that people take and make time for those things and people that are important and mean something to them, then the fact that weeks, months and years could pass without so much as a word or explaination, then you can finally see and accept your place of importance in the life of another.

Anyone who ignores or disrespects you is showing how they feel.

I threw away my rose colored glasses and burned all those dreams. I finally realized that I don't want to be loved, wanted or needed every now and then or when there is nothing else going on or nobody else available and that I can't give my heart,mind,body and soul to someone who treats me like a spare tire, so this chick is out of the trunk.

CHASING DREAMS

Some years back, I made a U-turn in my life that lead to exactly nowhere. There I remained stuck inside some kind of twisted day dream or fantasy left over from childhood fairy tales.

I've since learned that life isn't a fairy tale and, "...they lived happily ever after", isn't the rule but the exception.

I refused to see things as they really were and instead chose to see them through my rose colored glasses and painted everything with unicorns and rainbows. I couldn't admit the truth to myself, nor could I acknowledge it because to do so would require taking off my rose colored glasses and seeing reality. I wasn't ready for reality. Not then. I am now.

It took a long time. A very,very long time and the glasses didn't come off all at once but painfully slow over time allowing me to see tiny bits of truth until at last the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth was revealed live and in color right before my eyes.

The first step was seeing the truth.
Second step acknowledging the truth.
Third step accepting the truth.

If I could only go back and recapture all the time I spent chasing something that wasn't real and only existed to me.

I wrote the story line I wanted and edited the actions of others to fit what I felt and wanted. A never ending battle was going on in my mind pushing the truth from my mind.

It took watching another person chasing their dream and trying to hold onto it reguardless of the cost to their life,happiness, peace of mind,pride and self esteem that was my wake up call. As if someone held up a mirror, watching it from the side lines, I could not ignore the truth of my own life.

I guess the greatest lesson I've learned since I left the safety of my Daddy's home is this: Don't believe the words, believe the actions. Ideally, words and actions will line up and agree with one another but when they don't, remember that mouths will lie but actions never do.

Don't waste your time chasing rainbows. Make your own!

I can't tell you how good I feel at this very moment. A heavy, heavy load has been lifted from my heart, mind and body. I have left, for good the land of DENIAL.

I believe in love. I believe in it's mystery and magic.

I believe it is the strongest, most powerful force on earth. I believe in the power of love. But...that power can blind you to the truth. It can color things in rose colored happiness where "...and they lived happily ever after..." isn't the ending but just the beginning.

How could I not see what was right in front of my face,kicking me in the heart,chipping away at my self worth and laughing behind my back. How...could I not see it.

I didn't see it because I didn't want to. It is hard to admit that you are nothing to the person you love the most.

Harder still to admit that you have settled for being a spare tire in the trunk of someones life.

The truth isn't always pretty and it will hurt but most importantly, it will set you free.

THE FACEBOOK POLICE

Living where I live, my parents doing what they did for a living and being who they were, I've pretty much lived in a bubble and under a microscope all of my life. There was nothing I could do and no where I could go within a 6 county radius of my home where there wasn't someone who could report back to Daddy where I was, what I was doing....etc. Not that I was doing anything bad, just normal teenage stuff, still you begin to feel that nothing you do is private...even down to a Father's Day gift I bought one year!

I thought that once I was married and had children of my own, the need for people to tattle and inform would disappear. It didn't and only added more people to tattle to. Again, not that I was doing anythng bad. For instance, one year I bumped into an old friend in town. I was having a terrible day. Never able to pull anything over on him and before I knew it was spilling my guts about a miserable marriage that was sucking the life out of me. He put his arms around me to comfort me. Geez...even here I feel the need to defend myself and point out, we had grown up and attended the same church together, he was like a brother to me, had never been anything even close to romantic about our relationship.

Well low and behold the next day the news made it to my oldest child and when the news gets back to me.....I am having an affair.

Seems like in this small southern state a male and female can't be friends.

It only got worse when I began working. In no time I had gone from cashier to assistant manager to store manager. When your district manager comes to your store for an all day visit and wants to go to lunch.....YOU GO TO LUNCH. Oh...that went over like a turd in a punchbowl!

Beyond all of that with children grown now we have Facebook and along with Facebook comes the Facebook Police.

These are the people on your friends list that prowl and snoop though your Facebook page. They look at everything you post and comment. They look at your friends. They judge each and every thing you do.

I have a lot of friends on Facebook. People I am related to, people I went to school with, used to work with, went to church with and people I met on another blog site that have became friends.

I have been told by one of the Facebook Police that a few of my friends look like "perverts" and "stoners". I even received a message last week from an old school friend who wanted to question my judgement about having gay and lesbian friends!

I don't mind telling you, that burnt my cookies to a crisp! How the hell dare you!!!!

Why is it mine or any other persons business who another person loves or sleeps with.....????????!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I told her straight up that as far back as high school I had gay and lesbian friends. You know what....I've never had any problems with my gay and lesbian friends. They accept me just as I accept them.

I deleted her and blocked her ass!

Why can't people just LIVE AND LET LIVE!

The weekend starts with a slightly scandalous Friday

1) You've won the unlimited use of a recreational vehicle for this weekend (including all the free gasoline you need). You must leave in an hour and have the RV back by 9 a.m. Monday morning. Where do you go and who do you take with you?

I'LL TAKE A TRIP TO L.A. (LOWER ALABAMA) TRACE ADKINS OF COURSE.

2) You find out that a close friend who seems to the perfect marriage had an affair almost 10 years ago that resulted in a baby. It's been kept a secret from the public all this time, but the friend's spouse has obviously forgiven him/her. Does this change your opinion of your friend or his/her spouse?

NO, BECAUSE I WAS RAISED TO NEVER JUDGE PEOPLE. LIVE AND LET LIVE.IF THE FRIENDS SPOUSE CAN FORGIVE WHAT BUSINESS IS IT OF MINE..?

3) What if the friend who had the affair and lovechild was also the minister at your church? Would that secret scandal change your answer to the last question?

NO. GOD IS THE JUDGE, NOT ME.

4) My boyfriend uses the predict text function on his phone, and it recently backfired. He meant to text me this "Watching baby ducks on the road," but instead it said "Watching baby f**ks on the road." Do you use an auto-correct or predict text function on your phone? If so, do you have any funny stories about it? (By the way, if you haven't checked out the Damn You Auto Correct website, you really should. Just be prepared to laugh 'til you cry.)

5) I've been asked on several past memes and Facebook surveys about times I snuck out of my house when I was a teenager. I want to switch that question around: Did you ever sneak someone into your home?

YES, KISS ALBUMS. BACK IN THE DAY SOMEONE TOLD MY PARENTS THAT "KISS" STOOD FOR: KNIGHTS IN SATANS SERVICE, SO THEY WEREN'T ALLOWED IN THE HOUSE. (THAT THEY KNEW OF) I HID THE ALBUM COVERS AND PUT THE KISS ALBUMS INTO A DONNY OSMOND ALBUM COVER AND LISTENED WITH MY HEADPHONES.

7) Have you ever been the recipient of a RAOK (Random Act Of Kindness)? Or have you done one for someone else?

YES AND YES.

8) What are three things you've never done before that would surprise people?

DANG...I DON'T KNOW HOW TO ANSWER THIS....

9) I have a totally irrational (and somewhat offensive) fear of midgets. I have no clue why, but "small people" creep the hell out of me. Do you have any fears that are irrational, or maybe they are rational but funny regardless?

I AM TERRIFIED OF SPIDERS...I DON'T EVEN LIKE TO TYPE MUCH LESS SAY THE WORD...CAN'T LOOK AT PICTURES OF THEM NOR CAN I WATCH THAT STUPID ASS COMMERCIAL ON TV WHERE A PHOTO OF A BIG HAIRY SPIDER POPS UP ON A PHONE.

SOMETIMES IF I AM COMING IN THE HOUSE FROM OUTSIDE, ESPECIALLY AT NIGHT, I GET A SUDDEN PANIC ATTACK AND FEAR THAT SOMEONE IS BEHIND ME, SO I RUN LIKE HELL INTO THE HOUSE AND LOCK THE DOOR.

10) Recently there has been quite a bit of focus on being friends with benefits. There was the recent movie "No Strings Attached" and this summer's upcoming movie "Friends With Benefits" with Justin Timberlake and Mila Kunis, and NBC is about to premiere a TV show also called "Friends With Benefits." Do you think two people can ever be just friends but have casual sex?

MAYBE SOME PEOPLE CAN, I CAN'T.

11) I once composed an email to my now ex-husband griping about one of my co-workers saying she was a total bitch, but instead of sending it to him, I sent it to the co-worker by accident. Have you ever accidentally emailed someone insulting them when you meant to send it to someone else?

HAIRY TOES or THINGS THAT MAKE YOU GO....YUCK...!

It continues to amaze me the way people dress to go out in public.

A grown woman and I'm talking if not 50 then knocking on the door of it, in Hello Kitty pj's and houseshoes shopping away in Wal-Mart. Come on now. How in thunder do you stand in front of the mirror dressed like that and tell yourself, "Oh yeah, I'm ready to go!"

Believe it or not, that isn't the worst.

While enjoying a nice dinner at one of my favorite Mexican places, seated at the table to my left, even though it was quite chilly here on Sunday, a man with the ugliest feet this side of glory.

The toenails were big,thick and yellow. At least they matched the thick callouses on his heels.

The big toe was so flippin' big it looked like it was trying to escape from his foot. The thing looked like a corndog as it dangled off the end of his sandals. Not one single hair on his head, and please understand I don't have a problem with bald men (THE ROCK to name but one) but the hair on his toes more than made up for the lack of hair on his head.

Not just a few sprigs of hair here and there, I'm talking dark, black hair all over his toes.

I understand people want to be comfortable, but geezzzz!

If you have more hair on your toes than on your head, do us all a favor and cover up them piggies.

PERFECT STORM

Last year all the elements in my upside down life lined up to create the perfect mental and emotional storm. A storm that blew the blinders off my eyes and sucked my head out of the sand.

Painful, very painful at first to acknowledge that I had only been lying to myself and giving someone else one free pass after another to lie to me also.

Very hard and painful giving up a dream that you have held so close to your heart, have fought so hard to protect and nurture.

You know what else is painful....?

Giving love but never receiving it in return. Or if you do it is rationed out in small bits as if there is none to spare.

Giving time and energy. Working to keep the lines of communication up and open, even if it means doing all the communicating yourself....

Never too busy to talk or write....and never having that returned.

Busy....forgot....didn't have time....etc...Once in a while....okay. I can roll with that. But ALL the time.....? Houston we have a problem.

So, I worked, wrote and cried myself, alone through the perfect mental and emotional storm.

And then.....

When I stopped communicating.....There was little to no communication.

LIGHT BULB MOMENT....!!!!

And then....I discovered......

How wonderful it is to love yourself and say, "Hell no. I'm not taking any more shit"

How wonderful it is to allow yourself to be and receive love.

How wonderful it is to throw down those defenses and allow someone to be strong for and there for me.

How wonderful....truly wonderful it is to matter to someone.....to have that freedom to pick up the phone at any time, without restrictions and know you will hear a voice that is glad you called.

How wonderful to NEVER hear how busy someone has been which translates into, "You weren't important enough to make the time or effort".

Sorry guys, but, "busy" doesn't cut the mustard. Perhaps it did before cell phones, email,text messages and Instant messages, but these days....nope....that dog won't hunt.

My new motto is, If I don't see it for myself....it don't mean diddly squat. You can tell someone all day long how much you love and miss them, but unless you show it....it doesn't mean one gosh darn thing. Just more empty words that have no meaning.

In closing....

When people show you who they REALLY are.....BELIEVE THEM.

and.....

When they show you how little you mean to them.....You better believe that too and run like hell and like the song by Carrie Underwood....."UNDO IT"

THE SHAME OF OXFORD ALABAMA

The mouth of the south has a name and it is Leon Smith. If we were children on a playground, taunts of, “Liar,liar, pants on fire” would be aimed directly at him.

In question and still in the news is an ancient Native American Indian mound. Evidence abounds that this area was once a rich, proud and thriving Indian village.

Despite what Leon (Tweedle Dee) told the Anniston Star last year that the mound would be left alone and not used for commercial development. He contradicted himself in an article that appeared on the New York Times web site on March 12,2010. Reckon he thinks us hillbillies in Bammy don’t read and would be too dumb to notice a Sizzler where an ancient Indian mound once stood.

He stated his plans to demolish the stone pile and to erect a hotel, restaurant or maybe a health clinic.

“It’s going to be real pretty”, he was quoted as saying.

This all began when the city of Oxford and the merry band of morons who run it, decided to use the dirt under the mound as fill dirt for a Sam’s Club that was to be built at the nearby Oxford Exchange.

The city commissioned a study of the mound in question that was conducted by Robert Clouse, an archaeologist at the University of Alabama.

In the first report he concluded the mound was man made. The second report by Clouse after the you know what began hitting the old fan states in his opinion it was the result of “natural forces” and isn’t culturally significant. An opinion that experts around Alabama and the Alabama Historical Commission disagree with.

Earlier this year, Harry Holstein a professor of archaeology at Jacksonville State University reported that an earthen mound located across the street from the mound was gone. A face that Smith passed off by saying it was not gone and was still there if you knew where to look. Okay, take me there and SHOW ME.

In the days following these reports, another little tid bit came to light. On January 8,2010 ancient human remains were discovered at the multi million dollar sports complex site. It was NOT reported to the proper authorities.

Meanwhile, as of now, construction has been halted by the Corps of Engineers. They stopped the project in late February because it was not notified about the discovery.

Now, with every day that passes as construction equipment remains idle, the city is losing $12,000 dollars a day. (Boo frickin hoo)

The Anniston Star reported that to date the city has spent more than 5.9 million dollars on the project and purchase of land.

According also to a report in the Anniston Star, Holstein said:

“We told them there were 24 archaeological sites on that parcel of land, including a temple mound and village areas. The Historical Commission signed off on it.”

This is an issue that should concern not just residents of Oxford or Alabama, or just Native Americans. This should concern and anger decent people everywhere. The total and complete lack of respect shown to the remains of a human being, a proud people and culture are being spit on by Leon Smith and his merry band of thugs.

I even had a exchange in a chat room with someone in Oxford on the issue who stated she was tired of hearing about it, wanted it all to go away and they should, “…tear down the whole thing and build whatever they want….”

Her reasoning was, “This land doesn’t belong to them Indians. It is ours and we can do with it what we please and if they don’t like it, then go home.”

That mad me so mad! Guess what lady (?)…THEY ARE HOME.

Just as this issue was coming to light last year, PBS had a wonderful 5 part series I think it was on the American Indians and the first Europeans to arrive here. It was chilling and eye opening.

The history books I studied while in school made it all seem so nice and polite. The Indians lived here, we arrived, they helped us, we helped them, we traded, we bought their land, they moved. Oh sure there were a few fights and wars, but……

The history books didn’t talk about the treaties that were broken or the way they were treated in their own county.

Leon Smith has been the mayor of Oxford for over 20 years. No doubt in that time he has done much for the city, moved it forward and put it on the map as the place to be, live and go in Calhoun County. They call him, “King Leon”. Seems like now he is starting to believe it.

THE POWER OF PINE SOL

Last year life mentally,emotionally and physically,kicked my ass. Six deaths in the family, 3 happening all within the same month,medical problems,family problems,relationship problems...seemed like I was living under a black cloud. Reminded me of a lyric in an old Eagles tune:

"Every morning, I wake up and wonder, what's gonna happen today"

Life was slipping away from me and I finally reached the point where I didn't care. Let it slip right away, I thought to myself.

Now, with my medical issues seemingly somewhat under control, not living in almost constant pain, I am beginning to see some of the things that I let slip away from me.

Among them, my house.

I know it may sound crazy, but cleaning was something I had always enjoyed. I took great pride in my surroundings. It gave me a great sense of accomplishment at the end of the day to look around and see the neat, tidy and sparkling clean fruits of my labor.

Growing up, cleaning the house didn't just fall to my Mother, it was a family event. Especially on Saturday's. I can still hear music from the stereo playing through the entire house with the scent of Pine Sol and Pledge filling the air. Those are pleasant memories.

Over the years I had refined my house cleaning routine down to a perfect system. Chores were broken down into daily, weekly and monthly tasks. Even while I was raising children and living in a marriage made in hell, the house at least was something I could control. Predictable things are easy to control. You know the furniture will need to be polished, so you polish it.

With a rare Monday with the house all to myself, I focused on some of the small things I had ignored over the years. Things that other people wouldn't and don't notice. I mean, how many people step up on a chair to look on top of your fridge to see if it is clean or not? Not many, but just knowing they could, gives me some warped kind of joy.

After 2 weeks of being in a deep cycle of insomnia, I was able to crawl into bed last night and sleep for over 7 hours without waking up once.

Maybe it was the scent of Pine Sol that still lingered in the kitchen and master bath that came and reminded me of sweeter days when I felt safe and loved.

BOB RILEY-ALABAMA'S OWN DUDLEY DO-RIGHT

Gov.Bob Riley is on my last nerve and I'm counting down the days until he is out of office.

Riley has vowed to protect and defend the "standard of living" in Alabama by waging war on gambling in the state of Alabama. The gambling in question is bingo played via slot machines.

Each year Alabama watches millions upon millions of dollars say bye-bye to us and travel to other states to gamble and play the lottery.

Meanwhile on the home front, he has a problem with "gambling" as it is now. His problem is that electronic bingo in the places popping up around Montgomery, Birmingham and south Alabama don't require enough inter-action. It seems the difference between gambling and not gambling is the number of buttons you have to push.

He is and has spent millions of tax payer dollars riding on his white horse to save us all while cutting education and laying off much needed teachers.

My question to Dudley....err....Bob Riley is this....Why stop at gambling...? Why not save us from the evils of tobacco and alcohol...? After all they have killed and harmed more people in the state than gambling ever has.....so what not take aim at them....?

You can't pick and choose which "sins" to be against based on the almighty dollar....can you...?

Maybe Bob isn' so squeaky clean after all.

Out of the blue last week, listening to a mixed tape a friend made me years ago, a John Schneider song caught me by surprise. It got me to thinking about the string of hit songs he had.

I jumped on line and ordered his Greatest Hits CD.

His voice is so smooth, the songs are all great and speak to me in different ways, speaking to me on very personal levels.They do so even more now.

AOL is AO-HELL

I am FED up with AOL.

Once upon a time when a new version of AOL was released, an installation CD was sent via the mail.

An AOL 9.0 Optimized CD came with my computer back in 2004.

Sometime later an AOL 9.0 Security Edition was sent in the mail.

Since then, the AOL 9.0 Security Edition CD became scratched and not usable, so, I'm stuck with 9.0 Optimized.

Worth noting is that AOL crashes at least twice a month requiring that I reinstall it.

I have scanned the AOL Help section (which is, NO help at all)

I am guessing that installation CD's are a thing of the past.

Here is a newsflash.....

Some of us don't live in urban areas. We live out in the sticks where the ONLY choice is dial up.

As I write this, I have been downloading (LOL) AOL 9.5 online. Been at it for over an hour now and it isn't even up to 10% downloaded. By my calculations, it will take over 10 hours to download. Are you freaking kidding me....!!!!!!!!!!

Try to find something....anything about a CD installation on AOL Help and you come up with ZIPPO. In fact, trying to find anything that could be considered mildly helpful is like trying to find a needle in a stack of needles.

You would think for $25.90 per month, they could afford to produce a freaking CD.

In short, AOL is AO HELL and I'm about to kiss them goodbye.

For anyone that doesn't live in BumbleBucket USA and has a connection that isn't dial up, here is a business idea for you....Go to AOL the AOL site where it gives instructions on how to make your own AOL 9.5 CD, make one and then sell it to the dial up suckers.

I had myself a quiet day planned Saturday. With a rare day alone and the house all to myself I would play my music as loud as I wanted and attack the growing mess in the office.

A last minute change of plans had me sitting inside the Georgia Dome for the SEC CHAMPIONSHIP game between my beloved Crimson Tide of Alabama and the Florida Gators. Of course, everyone and their dog knew Alabama was the underdog but so what. Not like we haven't been the underdog before, but as someone who grew up on Alabama football, I know that you NEVER count out the team from Tuscaloosa,Alabama.

The fans in our section were mostly wearing CRIMSON with a healthy sprinkling of Florida fans thrown in for good measure. Seated to my left, 4 Florida fans who commenced to bragging and counting a victory before the first snap. Each time he would say something to me, I just smiled. After being poked for the fifth time and asked:

"What ya think 'bout that Bama gal?"

I replied:

"We do our talking on the field."

The atmosphere was electric. Florida faithful were remembering the previous years win over the Tide in the SEC Championship game and fully expecting a repeat. Meanwhile, the Bama Nation was hell bent on revenge. That became clear when the Crimson Tide exited the tunnel, running onto the field. Meanwhile, the Gators, strolled.

Mid way through the fourth quarter, most of the Gator fans in our section were long gone. Their hopes of a trip to California to play for the National Championship were rolled away by an Alabama team that came ready to play. In the final seconds of the game, Tebow was in tears and Florida was Alabama's bitch!

"Oh the weather outside if frightful, but the Dome is so delightful. Tebow has no place to go.....Let it ROLL,let it ROLL, let it ROLL."

Rammer Jammer rocked the Dome. Saban and the players saluted the crowd as "Sweet Home Alabama.....ROLL TIDE ROLL", filled the air.

Tebow's performance, along with Colt McCoy's less than impressive game,should give Mark Ingram a very good chance at winning the Heisman. A first for Alabama.

All I want for Christmas is a 13th National Championship.

I love Saturday when you are looking for a win and Sunday when you found one.

Kanye West showed not only his ignorance but his ass at the VMA's.

As 17 year old "country" singing sensation Taylor Swift began her acceptance speech for winning Best Female Video award for "You Belong With Me" over Beyonce's "Single Ladies",Kanye rushed up on stage, grabbed the mic from the stunned teen.

"Taylor, I'm really happy for you, and I'm gonna let you finish, but Beyonce had one of the best videos of all time!"

Taylor's big moment seemed gone. Taken from her by the thunder stealing,ass showing West.

Later as Beyonce accepted a win for Video Of The Year, in a move that was totally unselfish and classy, she called Taylor back to the stage after telling of her first win with Destiny's Child at the age of 17, thus, giving Taylor her moment.

I wonder if West would have stormed the stage if another black singer had won...? Doubtful.

Despite his money and fame, he must live a miserable and angry life.

Boo's and hisses to West. There is a sayin' where I come from that sums up my feelings about Kanye: "Someone needs to take him out behind the wood shed and whoop his ass."

Kudos to the lovely Beyonce for showing such class and grace.

PROTEST PLANNED AT ANCIENT INDIAN STONE MOUND IN OXFORD ALABAMA

Another protest is planned at the Oxford Exchange over the destruction of an ancient stone Indian mound for "fill dirt".

Mark Davis and local Native Americans have scheduled a Reconsecration Ceremony and protest on August 30th to protest the destruction of multiple Native American sites near the Oxford Exchange area, including the stone mound behind the Oxford Exchange as well as the Davis farm site.

Mr. Davis is holding this under the Native American Indian Freedom of Religion Act. He has asked for support from all those who are able to come. He is aiming for 300 people to show up but it would be even better if over 1000 showed up. If you are concerned with the preservation of our cultural resources and sacred sites, please show up to lend your support to our Native American community. Mr. Davis has asked that this be a peaceful protest and that those who show up refrain from any sort of rude behavior.

I have written about this several times on my blog. In published reports, Mayor Leon (MEAT HEAD)Smith first said the mound was only used to send "smoke signals". I grabbed Wednesday's ANNISTON STAR this morning and settled down with a cup of coffee. The headline on the front page shouted at me:

MAYOR CONTRADICTS STONE MOUND STUDY

In smaller letters underneath the headline:

Smith Says controversial mound was put at top of hill by natural forces.

WHAT....?!

As I read the story by DAN WHISENHUNT (dwhisenhunt@annistonstar.com), I could only shake my head and laugh at the sheer STUPIDITY of the comments by Oxford Alabama Mayor Leon Smith.

Mayor Smith, having found himself in the midst public outrage, now asserts that the stone mound, THE LARGEST IN THE STATE OF ALABAMA,was NOT man made but put there by natural forces.

DO WHUT....?

In more back tracking news, City Project Manager, Fred Denney, who has been quoted and has confirmed in previous interviews that the mound would be destroyed and used as "fill dirt" for a (proposed) Sam's Club being built at the Oxford exchange, now says that it ISN'T being used and that he NEVER said it was.

Leon Smith and Fred Denney...What a pair these two are!!!! Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dumber Than Dirt!

At one point Mayor Smith was quoted as saying the mound was used to send "smoke signals".

The only smoke signals I know about are the ones Smith and Denney are trying to blow up our backends.

The more these 2 talk, the more foolish and just plain ol' dumb they appear.

Still, at the heart of the matter is, a beautiful, IMPORTANT, structure is being destroyed with Tweedle Dee Smith and Tweedle Dumber Than Dirt Denney at the helms. So intent is Smith, that despite public outrage,opinion and national attention, it continues. Makes me wonder what else is going on....what kind of under the table deals are being made....?

SMOKE SIGNALS IN OXFORD ALABAMA OVER DESTRUCTION OF ANCIENT STONE MOUND

A group of local American Indians showed up at the Oxford City Council meeting Tuesday night to address the destruction of a 1500 year old handmade stone mound that dates to the Woodland era.

In hopes of opening lines of communication, Sharon Jackson, a Creek elder extended an "olive leaf" in an attempt to bring about a resolution.

The problem with that is, Mayor Leon Smith doesn't have on his listening or even his give a shit ears.

In case you are new to the story, a beautiful, sacred mound, the LARGEST of it's kind in the state of Alabama is being DESTROYED to be used as "fill dirt" for a Sam's Club.

In a report by Rebecca Walker in The Anniston Star on Wednesday,she writes:

"Smith said that the mound is currently not being touched, though it probably will be taken down eventually. When asked why the city is waiting, the mayor replied, 'That's my business'".

Excuse me....Did I read that right....? HIS business...? THE EGO HAS LANDED!

I thought he was an ELECTED offical. That being the case, he doesn't have any business. The people of Oxford have business, yet this arrogant, self serving,power hungry jack ass has placed himself on a throne and proclaimed himself KING.

A councilman verified that Smith is, "....handling the decision-making on the issue"

This case has drawn attention around the world, but it needs much more.

A protest is planned for Saturday at 10 AM in the Kohl's parking lot at the Oxford Exchange. (exit 188 off I-20). I would suggest to those able to attend, bringing video recorders and getting this on YouTube as soon as possible.

No one will challenge the fact that during his terms in office Mayor Smith has done much for Oxford and it appears that his years in power have gone straight to his head. King Leon needs a reality check. He doesn't own Oxford. He is basically an employee of the people and I hope they all remember his arrogant disregard and the shameful way he has handled an ancient structure that managed to survive 1500 years before King Leon.

If you see (what is left) of the LARGEST, ancient stone mound (over 1500 years old)in the state of Alabama,a sacred site to the Indians that lived and OWNED the land, a structure that PREDATES the arrival of the Europeans, then you would be correct.

If you see a big ol' honking and worthless structure that only merits being used as "fill dirt" for a new Sam's Club being built at the Oxford Exchange just off I-20 exit 188 in Oxford,Alabama....once again, consider yourself amongst the ranks of the fine and upstanding mayor of Oxford,Alabama.

The destruction of this site should ENRAGE, not just Native American's, residents of Calhoun County and Alabama, but everyone.

While most cities honor and preserve their historic sites, the city of Oxford is erasing theirs in record time.

You best believe if even 1 tiny,itty bitty battle that didn't amount to a hill of beans had occured on this site during the Civil War it would be a national treasure.

In all fairness, people and what they value differs. Some like the thugs and hoods on the Oxford City Council value the almighty dollar and worship at the feet of Wal-Mart. I have lived here in Alabama all my life and as far as I know there isn't a shortage of dirt. There is a shortage of 1500 year old structures!
